There’s something special about Castleford Academy. It’s the sense of belonging, the warmth of the people, and the shared belief that every pupil can achieve their very best. Our academy is filled with pride, ambition, and care, a community where every day, staff and pupils work together to create something truly special: a place where everyone feels supported, inspired, and proud to belong.

Staff Testimonials

Mrs C Thorpe

“Working across our trust and local primary schools is incredibly rewarding. I am passionate about supporting staff to deliver high-quality PE and creating opportunities for pupils to enjoy sport and physical activity. Leading festivals and competitive events across a range of sports allows children to develop confidence, teamwork, and a love of being active. Seeing both staff and pupils grow and succeed makes my role a real privilege and makes this a fantastic place to work.”

Mrs F Holmes-Brown

“I started my teaching journey back in 2003 at Castleford High School and feel like this building is my home. I would love to see me start and end my career within this trust.  I walk the corridors everyday feeling privileged to work with such unique children. Seeing their confidence, determination, resilience, knowledge and skills sets grow during their journey is a pleasure. I have felt supported during every stage of my career and know I can seek advice, offload and have a cuddle when I need it with trusted colleages. Castleford Academy staff feel like family. I feel respected, supported and trusted and know I can continue to grow, learn and up skill myself, as teachers face the challenges of working in an every changing society and education."

Miss H Paxton

“For 27 years I have worked at this very special school. What first drew me to accept the job was the warm and welcoming staff and of course the pupils that I met at my interview. My opinion has never changed and I have had the privilege of teaching a great number of fantastic pupils and working collaboratively alongside a group of great colleagues, especially my department who always go the extra mile and who put the pupils at the centre of everything, caring about the whole pupil and not just their academic outcomes, ensuring that they have the very best experience of school and leave fully equipped to move on to the next part of their life. SLT value my subject and have invested in the department over the years helping to make it a strong and high achieving department.  This school is collectively working together to achieve excellence for all.”

Mr N Hazleden (Key Stage 3 Lead for Physical Education)

“Working at Castleford Academy for the past 19 years has been an incredibly rewarding journey. As the Key Stage 3 Lead for Physical Education, I have always felt deeply supported, both personally and professionally. The academy places a real emphasis on staff wellbeing, ensuring we have the positive, nurturing environment needed to thrive in our roles. This strong foundation allows us to give our absolute best to our pupils, particularly through our vibrant extra-curricular experiences. Whether organizing competitive fixtures or leading school trips, our department has always received full backing from the leadership team to enrich our students' education far beyond the classroom. Looking forward, I am genuinely excited about our future within the multi-academy trust and the exceptional opportunities it brings to collaborate, share best practices, and grow together as one unified team.”

Pupil Testimonials

C Hazell-Kamara

“Throughout my time at Castleford Academy I’ve grown in confidence, challenged myself and made memories that I’ll hold for the rest of my life. Taking part in school performances and getting involved in school activities has helped me develop as a person in more ways that you could think of and has made my time here incredibly rewarding. Most importantly, this school has given me a real sense of belonging a place where I’ve always felt supported, encouraged, and able to be myself and I know that everyone here aspires to create that feeling for each and every person that attends Castleford.

Being Head Boy has been a privilege and an honour that I don’t take lightly. It’s given me the opportunity to represent our school, support others and give something back to the school that has given so much to me.”

S Gresswell

“During my time at Castleford Academy, I have developed life skills such as confidence, leadership and teamwork through the different opportunities that Castleford Academy provides.

I love being able to support younger pupils and work alongside teachers to help plan events and create new ideas to increase our sense of belonging.  Recently the school has made a huge effort to ensure pupils enjoy their time here by planning events such as the silent disco, the masked singer and many more rewards.

As Head Girl I am proud to represent our school and its core values of Care, Aspire and Succeed, as well as its supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to achieve their full potential.

Finally, our school is a welcoming and inspiring place where academic excellence, personal development and community spirit all come together."
