BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care
This course is a specialised work related qualification which is suited to those who are interested in a career in nursing, care, health or care management or any other health and social care occupation. This BTEC course will not only provide students with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career in the health or care sector but will be a great stepping stone towards many degree course areas such as nursing, social/youth work or teaching.
5 GCSE grades A*-C. English and Maths is preferred but
re-sit opportunities will be given for pupils who do not achieve them.
Students will study a range of topics which include:
Human lifespan development
Working in Health and Social Care
Anatomy and physiology
Work experience in Health and Social Care
Promoting public health
This course involves students organising their own work experience and completing 100 hours of work. Work experience is an important part of the course and will give students a real insight into the various professions and the opportunity to practice skills learnt while at college.
Students will complete the Extended Diploma over the two years which is equivalent to 3 A-Levels and is recognised by employers and universities. The Extended diploma consists of 13 units and is assessed through coursework. Assessment will be through a variety of methods, including written assignments, case studies, along with projects, performance observation, time-constrained assessments and external exams. All units are assessed internally by staff and then moderated by the exam board (Edexcel).
