You are here: Post 16 - Why Choose Castleford Academy
We set our students ambitious and achievable targets and encourage them to aim for their aspirations. Our students achieve exceptional success and this enables them to access a wide variety of opportunities in Higher Education, apprenticeships and employment following their Post 16 experience with us.
We are very proud to have received an ‘Outstanding’ judgement by Ofsted during our recent inspection. The inspection team recognised our commitment to exceptional teaching and delivery of all qualifications as well as providing our students with clear and supportive careers, employability and enterprise education. The Ofsted report states that;
‘In the sixth form, leaders have built a curriculum to meet students’ needs. Students receive excellent guidance on their next steps. They also benefit from planned work experience. They attend well. Students achieve highly in all subjects. They are very well prepared for future education and employment’.
Our staff will support both your academic and pastoral needs whilst you study with us. Post 16 staff will help, guide and advise you to ensure that you receive a personalised programme of study and care tailored for your individual needs. We strive to help all of our students achieve their potential at Post 16
Our students participate in activities, discussions and presentations which focus on the citizenship, PSHE and Wider Curriculum designed to provide young people with the knowledge, skills and understanding required for life in UK society. We strive to deliver enrichment lessons which are underpinned by Fundamental British Values and promote confidence, independence and empathy for others within our community and society. Students will cover topics including Employability, CV writing, Drugs and Alcohol, Managing Money, Mental and Sexual Health plus many more.
We offer opportunities for students to demonstrate their leadership skills through participation in events and activities, volunteer in extra-curricular activities as well as taking part in Post 16 trips.
As part of our commitment to our students, we will endeavour to support all of our students as you make the transition from KS4 into Post 16. Starting with the provision of guidance as you make your application to us, we will help you prepare for the next step in your academic career. You will have the opportunity to visit Post 16 during Year 11, meet with staff and discuss any area of college life. We encourage all of our students to raise any concerns or worries so that we can work together to resolve them in a climate of respect and trust. Taking the step from Key Stage 4 to Key Stage 5 can be a daunting one and our staff work tirelessly to make the transition as smooth and stress free as possible!
We offer our students a wide variety of leadership and educational experiences in order to prepare them for life after their Level 3 Extended Diplomas. One of these experiences include two blocks of one week duration where students attend a work placement of their choice. This is a mandatory process which all Post 16 Centres provide and enables students to gain valuable knowledge, skills and experience which will inspire and motivate them as they make decisions regarding their future plans. We are proud to have established a wide variety of links with local providers where our students have enjoyed spending their placement time and benefitted from excellent support and guidance.
In addition to work experience, the Health & Social Care course includes units of study where appropriate and relevant work placements are organised to meet the course criteria. Students will receive guidance as they plan, attend and evaluate their placement.
