You are here: Options - KS4 Options
Dear Parent / Carer,
It is the time in your son/daughter’s education when some important choices have to be made
in relation to his/her Key Stage 4 courses. This enclosed booklet provides information about all
KS4 courses. Your son/daughter has also been given a personalised options form.
The National Curriculum requires pupils to do a broad range of subjects which are compulsory.
These are Mathematics, English, Science, Physical Education, Computing and RE/PSHE (Life &
Society). Pupils are then able to choose 4 options.
The English Baccalaureate is not a standalone qualification but is made up of 5 GCSE subjects.
Pupils who want to gain the English Baccalaureate will study the National Curriculum subjects,
a language (French or Spanish) and a humanities subject (History or Geography). They will then
have a choice of 2 other option subjects, including BTECs.
We will always try to give your son/daughter his/her first preference choices. Occasionally, this
is not possible and if this is the case it will require further discussion. The options form must be
returned to your son/daughter’s form teacher by Friday 5th May 2023.
We do appreciate that making decisions and filling in forms can be a difficult and
time-consuming task. If you need any help or have any concerns about subjects offered to your
child, I will be available for you to consult at any time – but particularly at the Year 8 Parents’
Evening on Thursday, 27th April. Careers advice is also available in school and can be booked
via the library.
Options Afternoon (pupils only) – Monday 17th April 3:30pm to 4.00pm
Thursday 27th April – Year 8 Virtual Parents Evening (4pm – 8pm).
Friday 5th May – Last date for completed options forms to be returned to form teachers.
Videos for each subject will appear here on Tuesday 18th April 2023. The Subjects will be divided into separate groups: Core Subjects, EBACC Subjects, and Other Subjects.
