National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) - Youth Advisory Board (YAB)

We are thrilled to announce that Samuel (Year 8)  is now a member of the NDCS YAB! Samuel applied for this amazing opportunity in November 2017. With a little help - he filmed his application using British Sign Language and sent it off to the NDCS via email.

In the video, Samuel clearly and confidently explains why he feels he would be a perfect YAB candidate. The National Deaf Children’s Society were super impressed with his application! There were hundreds of applicants and Samuel was shortlisted to interview in London on December 15th. On Christmas Eve, Samuel received the much anticipated news - he was one of 15 successful applicants.

‘The interview was cool; I was nervous at first but then later inside I felt confident. When I received the letter, I felt shocked, I wasn’t expecting them to pick me! It was a good Christmas present’ Samuel.

Samuel will be attending his first residential in February 2018 and is excited to get stuck into his new role!

We are extremely proud of Samuel’s achievements; he will be an asset to the National YAB. We are sure he will continue to be a role model not only for deaf children at Castleford, but nationally.
