Magistrates Mock Trial

In March, a team of twelve Year 8 & 9 pupils were introduced to what it would be like to work in Law by taking part in the National Magistrates' Court Mock Trial Competition. The competition took place in a real courtroom at Bradford Magistrates Court and the team had to take on all the roles found in a real courtroom, from lawyers to witnesses to the defendant themselves! Round 1 saw the Castleford prosecution team up against Kingswood Academy, then the defence team took on eventual heat winners Bruntcliffe Academy in the second round. The competition was judged by a panel of three former magistrates and court judges, who highlighted in their final comments Castleford's strong prosecution team and sound legal advisor. This was a challenging competition which followed months of preparation and dedication by the pupils involved, and we are very proud of them all.
