The cheerleading team at Castleford Academy continue to go from strength to strength and it has been fantastic to see so many girls committed to training every week. This academic year the girls have competed in two national competitions held at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.

In November, our Year 7 squad competed against competitors from across the country in two solo events.  All pupils achieved at least one recall onto the dance floor and we had several quarter and semi-finalists.  Rosie, Sophie & Keira reached the final, with Sophie coming 7th, Rosie 6th and Keira being crowned national champion for Dance 1 in her first ever competition!

In March this year, the Year 8 & 9 teams braved storm Gareth and headed over the Pennines to compete in both the solo and team competition. There were hundreds of competitors from all of the big cheer schools nationally.  The girls were fantastic and again we had lots of recalls, quarter and semi-finalists.  Seven of the girls made it through to the finals with Evie coming 8th, Nalan 6th, Gina 5th, Faith 3rd, Rubie 3rd, Bobbie 2nd and Eve 2nd. Our team came 2nd in the team event and really set the dance floor alight.

We still have many events planned for the summer term and are looking forward to seeing what else we can achieve.  A special thanks to Eve our cheer captain and Molly vice cheer captain for their leadership this season and to Miss Belle & Miss Laura from Freedom 2 Dance for their continued hard work with our squads.
