Spiritual, Moral, Social & Culture Development (SMSC)

Castleford Academy is delighted to announce that we have achieved the National ‘Gold’ SMSC Quality Mark, awarded to us by The Citizenship Foundation. This means that as a school, we pride ourselves in working to ensure that children and young people are able to make a positive difference to the society in which they live – locally, nationally and globally.

SMSC is essentially concerned with “the search for meaning and purpose in life and for values by which to live”. Staff and students often refer to this as “The Bigger Picture”, and this can be seen in a variety of contexts across the academy. For example; during form time, drop-down days, lessons within the curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
