You are here: Curriculum - Curriculum Adaptations (SEND)
Subject teachers personalise learning and teaching so that it is matched to a pupils’ needs. The curriculum is reviewed regularly and adaptations are made where necessary to enable pupils to retain and recall knowledge, skills and understanding over time.
In many, but not all subjects, pupils are set by ability with pupils in all groups having their progress reviewed regularly to ensure that they are placed at the appropriate level. In core subjects, the majority of pupils with learning difficulties are taught in smaller groups.
Quality First Teaching is a priority at the Academy. For pupils with SEND, this is complemented by bespoke intervention from LSAs and mentors, either in small groups or in the classroom. Where LSAs are deployed in classrooms, this is on a personalised and flexible basis to ensure that a pupil has the necessary support to succeed whilst developing independence and resilience. Pupils with an EHCP/MSP or school support plan will have a personalised pupil profile containing personalised strategies to remove barriers to learning. Alternative curriculum offers and personalised teaching is also in place. The academy ensures that access arrangements are a part of a normal way of working in classrooms.
